Strengthening Global Collaboration, Department of Nutrition Science FK Undip Welcomes Meiji Group Japan

The Department of Nutrition Science, Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Diponegoro (FK Undip), welcomed an official visit from Meiji Group Japan on Monday, December 15, 2025. This visit marked a strategic step toward strengthening international collaboration between academia and global industry, particularly in the fields of nutrition, health, and research-based nutritional innovation.

The Meiji Group delegation was represented by Atsushi Kanda, Ph.D., Manager of the Nutrition Development Research Unit, R&D Division, and Anna Natori from the Nutrition and Food Function Group, Health Science Research Unit, R&D Division. The visit aimed to share Meiji’s experience in nutrition research and product development, especially in the rapidly growing field of sports nutrition, while exploring potential collaboration opportunities with the Department of Nutrition Science FK Undip.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Department of Nutrition Science FK Undip, including Gemala Anjani, SP, M.Si., Ph.D., Head of the Department; Ahmad Syauqy, S.Gz., M.P.H., Ph.D., RD, Head of the Undergraduate Nutrition Program and Dietitian Professional Program; Dr. Fitriyono Ayustaningwarno, S.TP., M.Si., Secretary of the Master’s Program in Nutrition Science; as well as faculty members and researchers Adriyan Pramono, S.Gz., M.Si., Ph.D.; Angga Rizqiawan, S.Gz., M.Si.; and Syafira Noor Pratiwi, S.Gz., M.Gz., RD.

The meeting began with a presentation on the profile of the Department of Nutrition Science FK Undip delivered by Gemala Anjani. The presentation highlighted the department’s vision and mission, academic achievements, research excellence, and its active role in education, research, and community service at both national and international levels.

This was followed by a presentation from Adriyan Pramono on major health challenges in Indonesia related to non-communicable diseases (NCDs), with a particular focus on hypertension and diabetes. The presentation emphasized the crucial role of evidence-based nutrition science in the prevention and management of NCDs in Indonesia.

Next, Dr. Fitriyono Ayustaningwarno presented the Indonesia Sports Nutrition Market Report, outlining key trends, growth potential, and market forecasts for the period 2026–2032. This session provided valuable insights into the significant opportunities for developing sports nutrition products tailored to the needs and characteristics of the Indonesian population.

Representing Meiji Group, Atsushi Kanda and Anna Natori introduced Meiji’s initiatives in the field of sports nutrition in Japan and Asia-Pacific. Their presentation highlighted research-driven product innovation and Meiji’s experience in integrating academic research with industry applications. They also discussed the potential for product development and market expansion in Indonesia through collaboration with academic institutions.

The meeting concluded with an interactive discussion on future collaboration opportunities, including joint research projects, research downstreaming and commercialization, internship programs, and career development opportunities for students and graduates of the Department of Nutrition Science FK Undip. This discussion reflected a shared commitment to building a sustainable collaborative ecosystem connecting education, research, and industry.

Through this visit, the Department of Nutrition Science FK Undip aims to expand its global network, strengthen research and innovation capacity, and contribute meaningfully to the advancement of nutrition science and the improvement of public health in Indonesia.
